Impact: supporting the community

This coffee from the Sidamo region is one that should not be missed because of its rich flavor palette. Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to establish direct partnerships for this coffee. Our previous partner was a large export company active in multiple sectors. Their focus was less on quality and traceability. This new partner, Testi Coffee, is a family business that is 100% dedicated to specialty coffee. They work on a small scale, with a strong focus on quality and the farmers. Through them, we directly support the community with investments in education, infrastructure, and fair trade.

What's special
about this coffee

We immediately fell in love with the exceptional complexity of this micro-lot from Bombe. This coffee is Grade 1—the highest quality class according to international standards—which means: hardly any defects, maximum finesse. Until recently, we worked with a Sidamo Grade 2—a delicious, balanced coffee that we enjoyed very much. But when we tasted this new harvest, we knew: this is a step up. For us and for you.

Through this coffee, we also support the non-profit organization Let Us Change, which sells the coffee to benefit their orphanages in Awassa, Ethiopia.

About coffee from Ethiopia

In Ethiopia, there are three major famous coffee regions; Harrar, Yirgacheffe and Sidamo. The Sidamo region is named after the indigenous ethnic group, the Sidama, who call the region their home and they speak the Sidaamu Aafo language.

Sidamo is located in the "Great Rift Valley," a vast valley with volcanoes and freshwater lakes. The latter also provide drinking and agricultural water for the population. The mountains, vegetation, abundant rainfall and fertile soil make the coffee in this region so special.

Ethiopian coffees are renowned for their very diverse flavors; from citrus, bergamot and floral notes to dried and tropical fruits. The washed coffees are often very complex and delicate while the "naturally processed" coffees can often be very "funky" and surprisingly fruity.

Producers & cooperative

Fruity Franny's new harvest once again comes from the renowned Sidamo coffee region, but this time from the mountain village of Bombe, in the district of Benza. Around 500 small-scale farmers deliver their carefully picked coffee berries to the Ayla washing station, where the coffee is further processed and prepared for export.
