A while ago, we asked for help for a special cause. The coffee farmers who grow our popular Spicy Sara coffee have been severely affected by the war in Congo. In early 2025, this war escalated into one of the world's largest humanitarian crises.
Through our partner organization RAEK, we were able to stay in touch with the farmers in eastern Congo. We asked them what they really needed. During that conversation, Anicet shared a simple but powerful idea: donate laying hens to farming families.
A chicken means much more than you might think: nutritious eggs to eat or sell, manure for the garden, and above all... a little hope.
Thanks to your support, we were able to make this idea a reality. The chickens have now been distributed to the families. Below are a few photos and a video we received of the distribution. Be sure to scroll through or click on the dots to see all the photos. (Given the lower quality of the photos, it is best to view them on a computer).
Some figures:
- Over €6,000 raised by Ray&Jules customers
- 450 chickens purchased by the RAEK cooperative
- Each family received a starter pack with chicken feed and instructions
- More than 200 coffee farmers received two or three chickens
