Sunny Joe, Peru in short

Sunny Joe is a creamy, 100% Arabica coffee from northern Peru, with notes of red fruit, sugarcane, dark chocolate, and a sweet finish. This Ray & Jules coffee is versatile, but we prefer it brewed in a Bialetti, thanks to its medium acidity and long finish. Read more.

Impact: Agroforestry & Direct Trade

Eber founded Finca Churupampa in 2011 together with his brothers and mother. He made a firm decision to take a different path. By focusing on healthy soils, robust plants, the right varieties, and meticulous processing, they grew within a few years into a model farm where regenerative farming techniques are systematically applied. And this has yielded results in both quality and volume.

What's special
about this coffee

With our Sunny Joe, we’re bringing you a rotation of coffees from Honduras and Peru. The Honduras blend features about 20 strong women from the Cafesmo cooperative (a partnership since 2023). Peru comes from a group of ambitious farmers around Mount Koipa. They are supported by the coffee company Finca Churupampa.

The great thing about Finca Churupampa is that they are so committed to regenerative farming techniques and conduct extensive research in this area. As a result, they have already built up a great deal of expertise that is truly cutting-edge. Driven by this passion, their farmers have also been “inspired,” and these plantations serve as an example of how quality and sustainability can go hand in hand.

About coffee from Peru

Today, Peru is one of the world’s largest producers of Arabica coffee, accounting for approximately 2 to 3% of global coffee production. For a long time, Peruvian coffee was mainly used in anonymous blends, but in recent decades the country has emerged as a major player in the Fair Trade and organic coffee sectors. Thanks to the remote mountainous regions and the small-scale nature of agriculture, many producers switched to organic certification relatively quickly.

That focus on Fair Trade and Organic brought international recognition, though the emphasis wasn’t always on exceptional quality. Often, the priority was certification and volume, rather than terroir, processing, and flavor expression. That is now changing significantly thanks to forward-thinking producers like Finca Churupampa, who are investing heavily in healthy soils, selective harvesting, and refined processing techniques.

The impressive heights of the Andes, the cool climate, and the fertile soils make Peru one of the most interesting coffee-producing countries in South America today. Our coffee comes from northern Peru, where small coffee farmers deep in the mountains craft coffees with character and finesse.

Peruvian coffees are known for their elegant balance, soft fruitiness, and refined acidity, often with notes of chocolate, citrus, and ripe stone fruit.
