Fair: fair trade or direct trade
Our ultimate goal: equal and direct relationships with cooperatives and/or farmers . We want to give them ownership in the coffee chain and grow together towards climate-proof plantations.
If this is not (yet) possible, we choose FTO. Through these labels we can be sure that farmers receive support to provide for their livelihood and to invest in their coffee cultivation.

What's special about this coffee
It's that wonderful time of year again when we offer coffee from Costa Rica. We have been working with Annelise from Grounds (roots in Costa Rica and coffee company in the Netherlands) for a number of years. We buy directly from the farmers — without unnecessary intermediaries. Transparency throughout the chain ensures honest conversations and fair opportunities. Annelise's mission? To maximize farmers' income as much as possible — so they can continue to invest in their craft. Because when they can grow, everything flourishes: their farms, their knowledge, their future. And that ultimately results in your cup of coffee.
About coffee from Costa Rica
The first coffee export from Costa Rica took place in 1820, and by the 1830s, coffee had become their most important export product. Today, bananas have surpassed coffee in Costa Rica. Costa Rica produces only 1% of the world's coffee, but is known for its top quality and sustainable cultivation. The focus is now mainly on specialty coffee, direct trade, and small-scale production. It is still an important source of income for thousands of farmers, but not the largest source of income for the country as a whole.
Producers & cooperative
Alexis Ramirez is the founder and driving force behind Los Campos, the coffee farm. In 2015, the family was able to build their own processing plant, enabling them to better monitor the entire processing process themselves. This proved to be a milestone in improving the quality and traceability of their coffees.

uitleg
Grinding degree
Adjust your grind size to the brewing method to get the most out of your coffee. With some brewing methods, the coffee is in contact with water for a long time (requires a coarser grind), in others very short (finer grinding degree). It is therefore important that there is no over- or under-extraction. Your coffee tastes either too strong/intense or too weak/watery.
French press/cafetière: coarse grind
Filter and Aeropress: medium grind
Bialetti/mocha pot: fine grind
Espresso/porta filter: very fine grind
Nespresso compatibel
