Sisters' Surprise Guatemala El Socorro in short

This coffee from Guatemala is aromatic and light, with hints of creamy milk chocolate and raisins. Enjoy it on filter, aeropress, French press, or espresso machine.

Fair: fair trade or direct trade

Our ultimate goal: equal and direct relationships with cooperatives and/or farmers . We want to give them ownership in the coffee chain and grow together towards climate-proof plantations.

If this is not (yet) possible, we choose FTO. Through these labels we can be sure that farmers receive support to provide for their livelihood and to invest in their coffee cultivation.

What's special
about this coffee

This coffee comes from the El Socorro coffee farm. The story began in 1960 when Mario De La Cerda and his wife Maria Colom managed to buy back the land that once belonged to their family. Their son started planting coffee plantations, and in 1999 Diego De La Cerda took over and modernized the farm, improving productivity, quality, and processing.

Today, El Socorro is a leading coffee farm with a strong family history, a sustainable approach, and numerous international awards. This coffee is a Maracaturra, a specific Arabica variety, and won the prestigious Cup of Excellence in 2007.

Producers & cooperative

Diego De La Cerda is not your average producer. When I first met him in November 2024 at El Socorro and was given an extensive tour, I had to get used to the way he runs his farm. Everything exudes vision, ambition, and entrepreneurship. Diego speaks proudly about his coffees and their quality, and it is clear that he dares to dream big. He is a pioneer when it comes to growing rare or complex varieties.

After several hours of talking, tasting, and walking around his vast estate, it became even clearer to me: this is someone who is deeply rooted in his environment. For Diego, coffee is more than a crop; it is part of who he is. It is intertwined with his history and identity. He loves the silence, nature, and solitude of farm life. His family lives in Guatemala City, but he commutes back and forth faithfully. “El Socorro is my favorite place,” he says, “and it always will be.”
