What's special about this coffee
In Tanzania, we work with a small, close-knit group of farmers who have made a conscious choice to remain small-scale. They invest heavily in quality and are gradually gaining more access to the international market, which means they are finally receiving a fair price for their work.
The Kenyan chapter is the story of Gloria & Jarmo. Love brought them together, and with a plot of land, they embarked on a new adventure. In 2010, they planted their first coffee trees. It wasn’t an easy journey, but with perseverance and the right partners, they built direct relationships, step by step, with people who recognize their quality and pay them fairly.
About coffee from Rwanda
Spicy Sara doesn’t follow the traditional story of one country, one harvest, one certainty. And that sometimes means we have to adjust our course. Still, we’d love to share the story behind this coffee with you. Honestly? Because we’re proud that we keep searching and never give up. Our Spicy Sara began in Congo. Due to the ongoing armed conflicts there, we had to be patient and temporarily switched to coffee from Rwanda. In the meantime, that stock has also run out, so we’re once again opting for flexibility with this delicious blend.
Still, for us, this blend remains a temporary step. Behind the scenes, we’re continuing to work toward resuming our partnership in Congo. We can already say this much: it’s getting closer. And when the time comes, you’ll be the first to know. Because this story belongs where it once began—and that’s Congo.
Producers & cooperative
Spicy Sara is a blend of two coffees. The Kenyan portion comes from the Sakami cooperative, founded by Gloria and Jarmo. They have succeeded in creating stable and fair employment opportunities for the communities surrounding their coffee farm.
The coffee from Tanzania comes from a small group of coffee farmers supported by the Wanza cooperative. Since partnering with Wanza, they have gained increasing access to the international market and are receiving better pay.
This collaboration is facilitated by THIS SIDE UP, which has been working with Wanza since 2015.

uitleg
Grinding degree
Adjust your grind size to the brewing method to get the most out of your coffee. With some brewing methods, the coffee is in contact with water for a long time (requires a coarser grind), in others very short (finer grinding degree). It is therefore important that there is no over- or under-extraction. Your coffee tastes either too strong/intense or too weak/watery.
French press/cafetière: Ground
Filter and Aeropress: Ground
Bialetti/mocha pot: Finely ground
Espresso/porta filter: Finely ground
Can't find the right grind size? Or would you rather grind your own beans? With a coffee grinder, you can make your coffee exactly the way you like it. Order your coffee grinder here.
Nespresso compatibel
