In addition to Lovely Luna, this blend consists of a proportion of robusta from Tanzania and is the result of good value for money. To date, we have not been on site and thus have too little insight into the chain. That is why we chose to hedge the risks with the certificates of Fairtrade & Organic.

What's special
about this coffee

We sometimes heard from customers that they were looking for a strong, not too crazy, coffee that works well in fully automatic espresso machines. More and more companies were also looking for a coffee that has both espresso and lungo character.

Many tests, tastings and recipe adjustments later, our roasters Sarah & Lieze launched our very first, real ESPRESSO ROAST in December 2022. This was baptized 'Birthday Blend because this (coincidentally) coincided with 3 years of Ray & Jules.

About coffee from Tanzania

This blend possesses 40% robusta from Tanzania to give the coffee some extra "punch. Oral histories tell that coffee traveled via Ethiopia to Tanzania in the 16th century by the Haya people. This Haya Coffee was probably a robusta variety and to this day it is strongly rooted in Tanzanian culture. The ripe berries were boiled, smoked for several days and then they chewed the berries rather than processing them into a beverage.

Today, 70% of their coffee production is arabica and 30% robusta. The coffees can be very fresh, pleasant acidity with often berries and other fruity notes. Tanzanian coffees are often surprising and juicy.

The remaining 40% robusta from the region in Kagera Tanzania is a collaboration with the Kaderes Peasant Development cooperative, a huge association of more than 4000 small-scale farmers.
