Sisters' Surprise Ethiopia Galeh in short

This coffee from Ethiopia is juicy and complex, with hints of jasmine, blueberry and bergamot. Enjoy it on filter, French press, or espresso.

Fair: fair trade or direct trade

Our ultimate goal: equal and direct relationships with cooperatives and/or farmers . We want to give them ownership in the coffee chain and grow together towards climate-proof plantations.

If this is not (yet) possible, we choose FTO. Through these labels we can be sure that farmers receive support to provide for their livelihood and to invest in their coffee cultivation.

What's special
about this coffee

This coffee comes from an exceptional region. Jimma is considered the birthplace of coffee, and what makes this lot even more special is that the farmers' coffee plants originate from an indigenous, natural forest. No external inputs are used: all fertilisation is produced locally and carried out entirely by the land itself.

Sarah on her journey of discovery to this region:
“It never ceases to amaze me how inspired I return, even though these trips are exhausting and intense. Yet this one was different. More intense. More pure. Everything exudes authenticity and connection – with nature, with each other, with time. It was as if I had come closer to the soul of coffee itself.”

During her trip, Sarah also met Tsedenia, an impressive woman who runs the Mocca coffee company. She beautifully expresses what coffee means to this community:
“‘Come, let’s drink coffee’ is here often said to neighbors, inviting them to join the coffee ceremony. Coffee is never a solitary ritual – it’s something to be shared. It is an act of togetherness, of being present with one another.”

Producers & cooperative

Gidhé began his coffee career in 1993 as a coffee trader in the Jimma region. In 2000, he purchased a large piece of land there, where he began establishing coffee plantations. What makes his work unique is that he consciously uses coffee production to stimulate socio-economic development in the region. Part of the profits are reinvested in the community through investments in healthcare, schools and local infrastructure.

Thanks to this social commitment, he was given the nickname Abba Ollie – “the one who uplifts, who lifts others up”.

Gidhé is anything but a traditional coffee farmer: he is a true coffee pioneer who builds bridges between traditional cultivation methods and modern specialty coffee, as well as between local communities and the global market.
