Sisters' Surprise Rwanda in short

Sisters' Surprise Rwanda is a fruity coffee with notes of honey. The coffee is well balanced and has an average acidity. Sustainable coffee from Ray & Jules: slow and freshly roasted on solar energy.

Fair: fair trade or direct trade

Our ultimate goal: equal and direct relationships with cooperatives and/or farmers . We want to give them ownership in the coffee chain and grow together towards climate-proof plantations.

If this is not (yet) possible, we choose FTO. Through these labels we can be sure that farmers receive support to provide for their livelihood and to invest in their coffee cultivation.

What's special
about this coffee

Gilles Bazambanza, the cofounder of Kunoza, contacted us in 2021 with the request to collaborate on a project in Rwanda.

Gilles himself was born and partly raised in Rwanda, so he is very close to the coffee producers and knows the problems like no other. With Kunoza he wants to use coffee cultivation in Rwanda as leverage for the many families living in extreme poverty to strengthen their economic position. This coffee is grown in combination with bananas, robusta plants and many old native trees that provide shade.

Producers & cooperative

This coffee is the result, the work and a blend of 2000 small-scale coffee farmers. These thousands of small coffee growers supply the Kayonza washing station, in the Kayonza district in Eastern Rwanda, the sunniest region of the country. This is where the name Zuba (sun in Kinyarwanda, the language of Rwanda) comes from.
