Sunny Joe (Preview, Honduras) in short

Sunny Joe is a creamy, 100% Arabica coffee from Western Honduras, with notes of sugar cane, chocolate and nuts. This Ray & Jules coffee can do anything, but we prefer it on bialetti, for its soft acidity and long finish. Read more.

Sustainable coffee from Ray & Jules: slow and freshly roasted on solar energy.

Impact: Organic & direct trade

The Cafesmo cooperative, with which we work together for this coffee, has invested a lot of time and energy to help their farmers in the transition to organically certified plantations. Moreover, it is the cooperative that bears the costs for this. We decided with Ray&Jules to support their hard work and to buy the coffee with an organic label.

What's special
about this coffee

After several online conversations with Sebastian from Cafesmo, evaluations of coffee samples and ultimately a physical visit to the organization and the farmers in February 2024, very proud of this new collaboration.

Cafesmo is a small cooperative founded in 2016 by Hidardo, who grew up on his parents' coffee farm. 16 young people work in the structure, the majority are also coffee farmers themselves, a total of 247 small-scale farmers are affiliated with the cooperative who also vote every year at the general meeting.

About coffee from Honduras

The first coffee plants arrived in Honduras in 1799 and since 2001, Honduras has seen a dramatic increase in production. Honduras’ soil is ideal for growing coffee, but climate change, which is causing extreme rainfall, is now the biggest challenge for what is now the largest coffee producer in Central America.

Honduras has long struggled with a lack of infrastructure, which is why it took a while for the quality to improve. Our coffee comes from the west of Honduras, Copán, best known for its Mayan ruins. Honduran coffee is especially recognizable by its often complex fruity quality and a lively, juicy acidity.

Producers & cooperative

This coffee is a blend of the coffee from 17 farmers around/on Mount Erapuca. Sarah visited some of them in February 2024. These farmers together provided 275 bags of coffee (69kg each). Ray & Jules bought 150 of these.
