Lucky Lou (Lungo) in short

Enjoy a delicate coffee adventure, Lucky Lou is the perfect lungo with marzipan in the aftertaste. Sustainable coffee from Ray & Jules: slow roasted on solar energy, in a home compostable coffee capsule.

Fair: fair trade or direct trade

Our ultimate goal: equal and direct relationships with cooperatives and/or farmers . We want to give them ownership in the coffee chain and grow together towards climate-proof plantations.

If this is not (yet) possible, we choose FTO. Through these labels we can be sure that farmers receive support to provide for their livelihood and to invest in their coffee cultivation.

What's special
about this coffee

Lucky Lou was (just like Powerful Peter) the reason to travel to his origins for the first time (in 2021). Much of the information read online really became clear and meaningful. The difficult reality of the farmers hit us.

Sarah visited the region again in February 2024, this time with the very concrete idea of further expanding the collaboration with Doña Olga (to be continued).

Producers & cooperative

Currently, Lucky Lou is the result of the work of many small farmers from the region around Santa Avelina. A beautiful region, but with a sad history where the government in the 1980s persecuted the indigenous population (Mayas) en masse and destroyed their villages.

In 1998, these various indigenous communities united (and thus the “Maya Ixil” cooperative was born) to strengthen their (economic) position.

Processing: Washed. The berries are picked manually and after a fermentation of about 24 hours, completely washed before being dried on drying beds.

Harvest months: October to February, depending on weather conditions.

Variety: Catuai and Mundo Novo.

Importer: FECCEG Germany

Exporter: Maya Ixil
