Our ultimate goal: equal and direct relationships with cooperatives and/or farmers . We want to give them ownership in the coffee chain and grow together towards climate-proof plantations.

If this is not (yet) possible, we choose FTO. Through these labels we can be sure that farmers receive support to provide for their livelihood and to invest in their coffee cultivation.

What's special
about this coffee

The driving force behind this project in the Oromia region is Ghidey Berhe who started speaking to the villagers in 2000. Ethiopian coffee is known worldwide for its unique taste and aromas, but scaling up cultivation and standardizing quality were the main goals for Ghidey.

We also support the non-profit organization through this Fruity Franny Let Us Change who sells the coffee to benefit their orphanages in Awassa (Ethiopia).

Fruity Franny is organic. The collaboration takes place via This Side Up who agree prices, quality and logistics directly with the producers.

Producers & cooperative

Ghidey Berhe started as a coffee trader and in 2000 he founded Limmu Kossa Estate. Today the farm employs 500 employees who grow Ethiopian coffee varieties on 356 hectares of land. Ghidey is as relentless in his pursuit of coffee excellence as he is driven by his work in the local community. He is known as "Abba Ollie"; he who exalts.

Specifications

Processing: Natural. The berries are spread evenly on raised beds, turned regularly and dried in the sun for 12 days.

Harvest months: The harvest takes place from November to January.

Heerlijk zachte koffie met fruitige toets. Na de andere R&J-bonen geprobeerd te hebben in het degustatiepakket heb ik mijn favoriet gevonden!

Mooie balans

De fruitigheid, frisheid en bitter zijn mooi in balans. Een van de lekkerste koffies. Ik gebruik de french press voor deze.
