Impact: Fairtrade & Organic

This coffee is the result of good value for money. To date, we have not been on site and thus lack visibility into the chain. That is why we chose to hedge the risks with the certificates of Fairtrade & Organic.

In November 2024, we will travel to Nicaragua to work out relationships with a new, small cooperative.

What's special
about this coffee

This cooperative brings together more than 370 small farmers (80 of which are women) and focuses strongly on quality. They do this by collecting the berries from the farmers at the level of the cooperative. That's where the berries are centralized, dried and the quality is controlled using equipment that farmers would not otherwise have access to. This results in a stable and clean taste profile in the cup.

About coffee from Nicaragua

It was not until 1840 that coffee began to become economically important in Nicaragua. During the dictatorship of the Somoza family in the period between 1940 and 1980, the coffee sector was hit hard with especially severe impact on the farmers. In 1998, Hurricane Mitch brought another tragedy to the sector.

Fortunately, recent years have been better for the coffee growers so quality of cultivation has improved tremendously. The coffees from Nicaragua possess typically complex and fruity flavors and a clean acidity.

Producers & cooperative

The Unión Cooperativas Agropecuarias San Juan del Rio Coco (UCA SJRC) is a union of 8 cooperatives representing 80 female and 290 male coffee producers unites. The UCA SJRC made a strong case by being one of the first in Nicaragua in 1993 to focus on the production and commercialization of organic coffee. She supports the farmers actively and structurally through technical support
know-how.

Fresh & slow

Your coffee is slowly roasted and arrives at your door a few days later.

Coffee, the first thing I think of in the morning, the first thing to start at work, a break with coffee and connect with colleagues, a pick-me-up in the afternoon, and yes in the evening a cup of comfort when needed. Coffee, a part of my life. For me espresso from the machine, for my husband poured mocha.
