This Venezuelan Sisters' Surprise is a medium intense coffee from the rare 'Caracolito' berry. Exotic with notes of lime grass. Sustainable coffee from Ray & Jules: slow and freshly roasted on solar energy.

Our ultimate goal: equal and direct relationships with cooperatives and/or farmers . We want to give them ownership in the coffee chain and grow together towards climate-proof plantations.

What's special
about this coffee

Venezuela has had many political problems in the past decade, making coffee exports impossible. Origin2U changed this and succeeded in 2021 together with local coffee enthusiasts to cross the Atlantic Ocean again with Venezuelan coffee.

The coffee we selected here is also extra special because it is Caracolito, which is Spanish for Peaberry. Coffee berries usually have 2 beans, so these caracolitos are the rare berries that only contain 1 bean. The name “caracol” (snail) refers to its round shape.

Organic without label

This coffee was grown completely organically, but Venezuela currently has no infrastructure to assign organic or fair trade labels.

Producers & cooperative

Hacienda Cocollar is run by Carlos César Avila, together with Richard Cabrera, agronomist and soil management specialist in fermentation techniques.

The farm operates without pesticides and is completely organic. They make their own organic fertilizer with the rest of the coffeeberries. They have 250 hectares of land, about half of which is occupied by coffee plants and banana cultivation. The other hectares are wild areas of forest and nature.
