    REGION & ALTITUDE

The Argote producers grow their coffee at 1,950 - 2,000 metres above sea level in southern Colombia in and around the village of Genova (Quindío department).

In July 2022, Lieze & myself (Sarah) left for Colombia to join Juan Pablo's coffee plantation for 10 days.

Leo: one of the first Argote farmers

Leo is 67 and has been growing coffee for more than 30 years. He is the first farmer to take part in the Argote project and one of the few in the project to have his own washing area, although it was in very bad shape. However, he is very enthusiastic about improving quality and is always asking Juan Pablo and Efrain for advice. With the grants from the past few years, he rebuilt his concrete wash tanks, added tiles for hygiene and built his own raised beds.

The Argote Project: the sky is the limit

All Argote producers are passionate about quality and constantly looking for ways to improve it. Thus, an incredible amount of manual selection happens at each stage, they use organic fertilisers and there is plenty of experimentation to improve the ecosystem. They also exchange experience and knowledge with each other. A training centre for regenerative transition was even established in 2020 and 2021. With a mindset and a network like Argote's, the sky really is the limit.
